Carl Ahlteen (or Carl Althén; born Karl Emil Johansson)

Editor of the Swedish-language IWW paper Allarm beginning in 1915, and a personal friend of Joe Hill. Arrested in Minneapolis in 1917 and convicted in the federal IWW mass trial; sentenced to twenty years’ imprisonment and a $20,000 fine. Studied homeopathy while in prison. Released from Leavenworth in 1923 on condition of deportation; deported January 13, 1923.

In Sweden he joined the syndicalist Sveriges Arbetares Centralorganisation and spoke at a 1924 memorial meeting for Joe Hill. Later abandoned labor activism, practiced homeopathy in Stockholm, and was convicted of malpractice in 1933 following several patients’ deaths. Subsequently moved to Colombia and the Panama Canal Zone, where he continued his practice until his death in 1948. His widow and son subsequently relocated to California, and interred his ashes in Oakland.

Clement Alexanderovitch

August Allman (or Allmann)

Joined the IWW at least as early as 1917; arrested in 1918 in Walla Walla, Washington. Like all immigrant IWW members arrested in Washington, charged with promoting illegal destruction of property and being “likely to become a public charge” (despite having $528 in savings). Due to his German nationality, he was interned as an “alien enemy” at Fort Douglas, Utah. Deported on September 25, 1919.

Lars Anderson (or Andersson)
